THE NAMING TRADITION FOR CHILDREN IN SAUDI ARABIA

Hello guys this is second time I write on my blog, here I want to share about the naming tradion for children in Saudi Arabia. And everyone do you know about Saudi Arabia? 

Saudi Arabia, officially known as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an Arab country in West Asia that covers almost the entire region of the Arabian Peninsula. Saudi Arabia is geographically the fifth largest country in Asia and the second largest in the Arab World after Algeria. Saudi Arabia directly borders Jordan and Iraq to the north, Kuwait to the northeast, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates to the east, Oman to the southeast, and Yemen to the south. This country is separated from Israel and Egypt by the Gulf of Aqaba. This country is the only country that has two important coasts, namely the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, and most of Saudi Arabia is a desert.

Talking about names in Saudi Arabia can indeed be your own story. In this article I want to share about the tradition of names in Saudi Arabia that are unique and have their own rules.

- Parent's name for the child's name.

In Saudi and other Arab countries, as a form of respect and gratitude to both parents, they have a tradition of giving names of children with their own parents' names, names of fathers for boys and names of mothers for girls. So don't be surprised if you find in one family that name is just that, the name of grandfather and grandmother is the same as the name of his grandson.

- The name of the child as the name of the parent's greeting.

In addition there is also a tradition of using the name of the first child as a nickname or greeting for their parents. For example, the name is Mariam, now most of the Saudis here are called Umm Mariam, which means Mother of Mariam. And his father was called Abu Yaqub which means Father of Yaqub. This name is used by the school and also the name used when introducing yourself, not the real name that is used. So when introducing yourself to a parent's meeting, this is how to introduce himself:

"Salam alaikum, Ana, Umm Mariam" or "Salam alaikum, Ana, Abu Yaqub" but for official documents in children's files, of course our real names will still be written there.

- The name "kunya" or special nicknamge is so commonly called.

The name of the nail is not recorded in official documents, only for greetings and calls. This is different from using a child's name as a nickname. Because someone is free to choose the name of the horse with the name they like. Most of what is used in Saudi Arabia is the name of Sahabat Rasullullah SAW.

Sometimes for children it is also given a nail name for example, His name is Mariam, many in Saudi who give his name "Maryume" are around the compound, his nickname changes to Maryume. Or Hassan, who became Hasuun, Aisha became Ayush, Zainab became Zanub, and there was Ahmad again as Ahmato.

- Rules for writing names in Saudi in official documents.

In Saudi Arabia, there are rules for writing your own name to fill out certain forms whether you are filling out school registration forms, forms for VISA, forms for Iqamah, etc., the name that must be filled in the form usually consists of 4 names, namely real name, name father, grandfather's name, and surname. Even so, the name written on our report card or ID card sometimes does not have the 4 names that were written, sometimes only the original name and the name of the father plus the name of the family, some are even written first name (real name) plus surname.

- Names prohibited in Arabia.

There are 50 names that are forbidden to be used in Saudi Arabia, the reason being that the name is considered to be harassing religion, and also not polite to use. For example, Abdul Rasul, this is prohibited in Arabia because if it means the name Abdul Rasul is the Servant of the Prophet, or someone who worships the Prophet, this name is included in the category "blasphemous connotations"

Or: Humair, this name is also banned in Arabia because Humair means: Donkey, this name is considered: "deemed socially unacceptable"

Ok, the name is a self-identity, therefore it must be maintained well, the name is also a prayer. Because it's tucked in the hopes and prayers of both parents when giving names to their children, yes or not?
